Rogue River June 15 day trip

Ferron calls this Blogpost "Surfing Turtle" which was seen at our lunch spot below Galice. The turtle is perched on a floating piece of wood. It looks like a totally relaxing spot to us. The Baldwin Family from Santa Clara, CA who are staying at The Treesort joined us as did Roy and Carol Reynolds from Lakeland, Florida who are visiting their friend from Selma, Oregon.

Riken Rogue River Rental

For those of you who want plenty of storage and dry boxes we recently purchased this 16 foot Riken for Rogue River downriver rentals. If you want fewer boxes, we can remove some. One of the boxes makes a kitchen stand to place your propane stove and other kitchen needs. Mother's Day week end Ferron and Sue had the opportunity to raft the Wild and Scenic section of the Rogue River. Sue rowed our fifteen foot self bailing Riken and Ferron rowed our 16 foot Hyside with a double row passenger seating frame. We stayed at lodges on the lower Rogue and were able to carry less gear and more people.
And in early May we saw a bear, bald eagle, and an osprey catch a fish right behind our rafts. The Rogue River still remains wild and scenic.

Muddy, mighty Rogue River

This picture taken at Hellgate Overlook was after thunderstorms, torrential rains, lightening and 45+ mile an hour winds on Sunday, March 13. What is usually a Class II+ whitewater rapid at Dunn Riffle is washed out as the Rogue River flows at 10,000 cubic feet per second in comparison to its summer flow of 1800-2000 cubic feet per second. It's still winter weather in southern Oregon. We're hoping once the rains stop and the river drops that we'll have beautiful, sandy, pristine beaches on the Rogue River for summer relaxation and fun and wonderful whitewater rafting adventures.

Rogue River in March

Steve from Asheville, North Carolina, joined Ferron today on the Rogue River. He wanted to fish. Ferron advised that hard rains had muddied and raised the river level, and the bites might be few and far between if at all. Yet, at 8000 cfs the scenery was still gorgeous, and the Rogue River Canyon walls were covered with brilliant green, wet moss. Mating ducks and river otters were spotted during the high volume Rogue River half day trip. Alas, the fish hid in the muddied water.

Last week the surrounding hills of the recreational section of the Rogue River received more than a foot of snow. Though the sun has come out and the snow at Ferron's Rogue River Fun Trips has melted, we can still see the snow on the hillsides.
The river is dropping and many are on the Rogue River fishing for steelhead. Today one of Ferron's guests caught a 14 inch fish, enough for a dinner.

The Rogue River is high and muddy

Mid-January on the Rogue River. The temperatures during the day have been in the mid fifties, not low enough for snow which means lots of rain. Folks would not need to carry their rafts very far for a river put in. The day after this photo was taken the sun came out. As Rogue River levels drop, we hope the wiley winter steelhead will start to bite.
